Tomorrow we fly home back to Maine. We will no longer be Berliners- what a ride its been. I didn't always love the day to day, but I'm happy to have had the opportunity and there is a lot I will miss. We tried to fill up on many of those things the last few days in between packing and cleaning. We had one more Sunday at the Mauer park, ate at some of our favorite places and just tried to take in the city as we moved about. Thanks Berlin until next time.

One more week, and I am having a last minute love affair with Berlin and all that could have been. I am full of regrets... but trying to just shake it off. The weather is heating up, the sun is shining and today is the last day of school. Benno's pick up was an emotional one as all of the kids were saying goodbye as they head to new and different schools next year. Frida wouldn't let me come pick her up from school today and that may not have been a bad decision- I'm a bit weepy these days. She's off having a burger with friends on the last day of school. What amazing kiddos- I couldn't be prouder of how they have navigated the past two years. And bonus- Benno told me today that I was right all along when I reassured him back at the beginning, when every school day ended with tears, that in the end he would be sad to leave. And they are sad to leave but also excited to return home. First though, all of the goodbye's. So here are a few photos from today's goodbye's and from Monday when we celebrated Benno's graduation from elementary school. There is no big school event- there is an assembly, but parents aren't invited. Instead, the parents organize an event for the kids who are moving on to secondary school next year. Their families and all of the teachers who have been part of their education are invited. It was a really nice evening, with food, pool, drink, flowers, dance and a make shift photo booth. Tomorrow is the last day of school, yay! |
